Hillside Wesleyan Church is located at 50 Ritcey Crescent, off the Cole Harbour Road, in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

See map for directions.

The church was founded in 1974 and has had a positive influence in the Cole Harbour and Dartmouth community. The church helps people move forward with an ever-increasing relationship with Jesus Christ. We are real people, interested in real community so that we experience real change in our lives. Hillside is a part of The Wesleyan Church denomination.

There is a particular interest at Hillside to promote healthy family life partnering with parents in developing faith in their children. The active youth ministry continues the partnership for families with teens. Adults as well find a place of being encouraged and nurtured in their faith through regular worship and small groups.

Hillside is a place for everyone. If God is not even on your radar or you have had some bad or poor experiences in your formative years of church life, Hillside is a place for you to come as you are and join the faith journey.

Lead Pastor
Jay Guptill

Jay became Lead Pastor at Hillside on July 1, 2007. He has served in various ministry capacities in both Canada and the USA and enjoys being back home in the Maritimes since 2002. He has a love for sports and has the scars to prove it. Jay has a hard time saying “no” to chocolate and is determined to someday get his six pack abs (as for now he has to settle for the “one” pack his youngest son told him he had. In fact, Jay's nephew Nathan once said in the most polite and supportive way, “gee Uncle Jay, you're doing a really good job on that pot belly!)

Jay is in love with Sharon (his red, hot, chilly pepper - drop dead gorgeous babe) having been married since 1985. There are five Guptill sons in the family and none are twins. Yes indeed, there is a lot of testosterone in that household! Start a spat and you're sure to get tackled. And someone is sure to say – I didn't start it.

Children's Ministry Director
Noreen Smith

Noreen grabbed on to Jesus when she was 16. She had read the Narnia Chronicles ravenously as a child, and even tried talking Aslan into taking her to Narnia. When she finally met some people in a Nazarene church plant who actually believed Jesus was real, and even talked to him, she recognized who she had really been looking for as a child. Ever since then she's been active with Christ loving kids loving kids loving Christ. Not a typo, put the comma anywhere in that list and it's still true.

Noreen met her husband, Barry, while they were attending Ontario Bible College. They married in 1987 and soon moved to Barry's hometown of Dartmouth to join his father in a mily business adventure. Here they've shared a life together that has grown to include Josh, Daniel, Rebekah and Hannah.

The Wesleyan Church is an evangelical, Protestant denomination. We offer the good news that faith in Jesus Christ makes possible a wonderful personal relationship with God, a holy life empowered by His Spirit for witness and service, and assurance of eternal life in heaven. Our ministries emphasize practical Bible teaching, uplifting worship, and special programs to meet a variety of life needs.

With World Headquarters in Fishers, Indiana, The Wesleyan Church has nearly 400,000 constituents in 5,000 churches and missions in 80 countries of the world.  Formed in 1968 resulting from the mergers between several like-minded groups, dating back as far as 1843, The Wesleyan Church has its roots in John Wesley's Methodism.

Wesleyans believe in one God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all men and women who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life. We believe that those who receive new life in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord's Spirit. We believe in the Bible and seek to establish our faith and actions on its teaching. We believe God wills for people everywhere to know Him and that the purpose of the church is to tell the world about Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds.
